We stumbled upon the term Core Insights not long ago and realized it would be a great fit for describing what we think we know and how we came to know it.
You could just as easily substitute this verbiage for the above: what we believe we know and how we came to believe it. We are, first and foremost, skeptics after all.
A version of Core Insights as they apply to Hot Stampers would go something like this:
- A core insight is a fundamental understanding that helps identify better approaches to finding solutions.
- Core insights in our case come from testing thousands of record pressings to assess their sonic characteristics.
- Testing is the main way we acquire useful data about the records we sell.
- The data is then used to guide future strategies for finding even better sounding records.
- The underlying patterns or truths about the records we played are revealed through this process.
- Continuing research helps us understand the records we test at the deepest levels.
- This understanding allows us to refine our core insights and create new ones.
- The use of core insights insures that our experiments will continue to become both more revealing and accurate.
We haven’t gotten very far in listing our Core Insights, but we expect to be adding many more in the coming months.
Until then you may want to check out some of these pages:
These commentaries illustrate some of the concepts we’ve found to be helpful in understanding and evaluating the sound quality of recordings.
Lots of good advice can be found on this page, most of gained from playing records and learning the lessons they taught us.
