AMAZING A+++ SOUND on the first three sides, giving you killer Master Tape Sound for every song except Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands! We just finished a huge Blonde on Blonde shootout and this copy murdered the competition on sides one, two and three, earning our top grade for each. The sound is SUPERB — I don’t think I’ve ever heard this album sound any better! It’s rich, full-bodied, warm, natural and has the energy of live music in a way no other copy we played could compare to. The presence and immediacy are OFF THE CHARTS. 

The only side that didn’t earn an A+++ grade was the fourth side. The top end isn’t what it should be which makes the voice sound a bit unnatural. Truth be told, side four is always a step down from the other three sides sonically — I’ve yet to hear one that really blew me away. The only song on side four is the 12 minute track “Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands”, so if that’s your favorite song on here this is not the right copy for you. Otherwise, this is a Blonde On Blonde that’s going to be INCREDIBLY hard to beat. It was a thrill to hear these great songs sound so natural and correct.

Blonde on Blonde is an album of enormous depth, providing endless lyrical and musical revelations on each play. Leavening the edginess of Highway 61 with a sense of the absurd, Blonde on Blonde is comprised entirely of songs driven by inventive, surreal, and witty wordplay, not only on the rockers but also on winding, moving ballads like “Visions of Johanna,” “Just Like a Woman,” and “Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands.” Throughout the record, the music matches the inventiveness of the songs, filled with cutting guitar riffs, liquid organ riffs, crisp pianos, and even woozy brass bands (“Rainy Day Women #12 & 35”). It’s the culmination of Dylan’s electric rock & roll period — he would never release a studio record that rocked this hard, or had such bizarre imagery, ever again.
