We packaged together our very best A+++ side one with a different copy that boasted our best side two with the same top grade to give you this QUIET White Hot Stamper 2-pack! I doubt this is anyone’s very favorite Dylan album, but it’s sure a lot more enjoyable when you have sound like this. And if you want to hear what’s missing on the typical pressing, flip either copy over to the non-WHS side to see what we’re talking about.
The big hit here is Gotta Serve Somebody, and Mark Knopler of Dire Straits is featured throughout the album.
The A+++ side one is big, rich and open with excellent clarity. It had more presence and a bigger soundfield than the copies we played it against.
The flipside of this side one had some of the blandest sound we heard in our shootout. Play it to see how boring a typical copy is, or just ignore it. That’s why we decided to pair it up with our best side two, even though the flip of that one is decent (about A+). We figured anyone who’d want a WHS copy of this album would want three pluses on the side with Gotta Serve Somebody (side one), so a 2-pack seemed like the best plan.
The White Hot side two included is unusually open and transparent with more body and more depth to the soundfield than the average copy. It’s also richer and fuller with more weight down low.
